13| Sarah: Marathon to Mastectomy. Elective double mastectomy, mental strength, breast cancer & hereditary risk factors, post operative recovery, Van life and homeschooling.

Season #2

Welcome to sesson 2, episode 2.
In this deeply personal episode with Sarah, Clare and Chloe dive into Sarah’s journey of navigating the decision to undergo an elective double mastectomy. Sarah shares her story of confronting a hereditary breast cancer risk, (after sadly loosing her Mum from breast cancer when Sarah was only 8 years of age) building the mental strength to make such a life-altering decision, and the realities of post-operative recovery. Sarah shares with us how training and completing a marathon, helped her mindset during this recovery!

Sarah also opens up about her and her husband Dave’s experiences with van life (whilst 18 months into a grand Australian adventure) and homeschooling their two girls, Grace and Molly. We have a good chat and laugh about how a couple makes intimacy work when you’re in the same living confines day in day out with your children. This episode is a raw, inspiring look at Sarah’s resilience, self discovery, mental training, and the courage to take charge of one's health and future. There are tears, but also plenty of giggles along the way! We hope Sarah’s story may be relatable or inspiring to other women on similar journeys- or even spark curiosity of a travel and homeschooling adventure!

Lastly please take this opportunity to feel your boobs and advocate for an ultrasound if you think anything has change. Sarah mentions the organisation inherited cancers support we have linked them in.
